A day after a rape case was registered in Gurgaon following the zero FIR filed at RK Puram police station in Delhi, Gurgaon police have conducted a medical examination of the rape victim. The police had earlier shown reluctance in registering a FIR in the case.
The victim, who was working in Aon Hewitt’s RK Puram office, has accused her business group manager — Rahul Singh — of raping her at the company’s Gurgaon office in October.
After waiting for a month to get a fair response from the organisation on the complaint made to the senior staff, she approached RK Puram police station but the police officials did not allow her to meet the SHO. The victim was asked not to register a case on the ground that the move might affect her married life.
On 2 January, however, a judicial order was issued by a local Delhi court to take immediate action on the complaint of the victim following which on Sunday night a zero FIR was registered at RK Puram police station and the case was transferred to Sushant Lok police station in Gurgaon.
‘The medical examination of the rape victim was conducted and her statement was recorded before the magistrate. We are investigating the case and on the basis of her statement we booked the director of the company for rape. Also, 11 other members of the company including the CEO have also been booked for various charges,’ Alok Mittal, Gurgaon police commissioner said.
Meanwhile, Aon Hewitt’s spokesperson told Millennium Post that the company has filed a counter FIR against the victim for making false allegations against staff members. Whereas when the concerned police officials were contacted they denied the claims of any counter FIR in Gurgaon.
However Mittal added that in December after the victim had approached RK Puram police station, the concerned authorities of Aon Hewitt had couriered a written version to DCP (east) Gurgaon saying, ‘The victim is making false allegations against us. Further we cannot disclose their version.’
Aon Hewitt, however, has issued a statement saying, ‘We are aware that a former Aon Hewitt colleague filed a claim of sexual misconduct against the company and some of its managers. We take these allegations very seriously and are working with authorities to address them. Aon Hewitt is an equal opportunity employer with women comprising over a third of our workforce. We pride ourselves in offering an open, diverse and safe work environment for all our employees.’
