Gunmen kill driver, the sole witness to former MLA’s murder

The only witness in the murder of former MLA Bharat Singh, his driver, Vipin was shot at by unidentified armed assailants on Tuesday.

According to the police, the incident took place at around 7:20 pm on Tuesday evening near Japanese Park in Rohini where a group of unidentified armed assailants started shooting at Vipin. According to senior police officials, a group of men came in their I-20 car and started firing at Vipin who had parked his car.

The official further said that he was taken to BJRM hospital in a critical condition and succumbed to injuries before Police Commissioner B S Bassi reached the hospital. A case has been registered under Section 302 at Prashant Vihar police station against unidentified men. Police are trying to analyse the CCTV footage of the area to ascertain the identity of the culprits. Former MLA Bharat Singh was attacked by over six armed men on March 29 when he was attending a religious programme at Abhinandan Vatika in Najafgarh. The attackers had reached the spot in an SUV, which was recovered from Kharkunda in Haryana on Wednesday.
