Delhi Police solved the mystery behind the murder of a 74-year-old woman who was found dead with her house ransacked on Saturday evening. Police have arrested two men out of which one is her own grandson who conspired to kill his grandmother to pursue a lavish life. The two accused persons have been identified as Harshit Jain (21) and Gaurav Tyagi (24).
According to the police, a 74-year-old woman identified as Kailashwati Jain was found lying in a pool of blood when her husband Roshan Lal discovered her body at around 5.45 pm on Saturday at their residence in Rohini.
“While going through the CCTV footage of the residential complex, we came across the footage of two men who entered the building at 2.30pm and left after 5.30pm. We then zeroed down on people who were known to the deceased woman and came to know that the grandson was involved in the murder. We received a tip off from Harshit’s girlfriend that she got a call that he has been kidnapped and is being kept at an unknown location,” said a senior police official.
The official further said that they laid a trap to arrest the duo. During police interrogation, Harshit revealed that he was in need of money after he left his home and started living in a PG accommodation in Noida. He then came in contact with Gaurav who was a DTC driver. Since he spent all the money on living a luxurious life, he was under pressure to return the money he had taken from his friends.
He made a plan to kill his grandmother since he knew she had a lot of jewellery with her. Two days before executing the plan, his friend Gaurav visited the elderly couple’s house acting as a service man while Harshit hid on the terrace. A day before the murder Harshit saw that his grandfather went for evening walks and decided that was the right time to commit the crime. Taking advantage of this situation, he sneaked into the building in his grandfather’s absence. He then went to their house and with the help of Gaurav first hit his grandmother with a glass jug and then strangled her with a shawl.
