The government has given a go head to the University Grant Commission (UGC) to start the process of appointment of university teachers. This would have a direct impact on the Delhi university (DU), which alone has 4,000 teaching posts vacant to be filled. A meeting of the full commission of UGC has been convened on 21 January to take up the proposal.
Aditya Narayan Mishra, chairperson of Academics for Association and Development (AAD) said, ‘After meeting with UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and the HRD minister M Pallam Raju, I followed my efforts to a logical conclusion by meeting the Ved Prakash, UGC chairman on Friday’. Mishra claims he impressed upon the UGC chairman the need to clear the report on service conditions by giving his final approval as this would clear the roadblock for holding the interviews for more than 4,000 posts for which teachers are working as adhocs or temporaries. According to him, Prakash responded positively.’
When sought for an opinion, Prakash, said, ‘We are planing to streamline the problems of the recruitments for which UGC has setup Anand Krishna Committe in 2010 and we are planning to look into the recommendations.’
Prakash also added that ‘UGC is serious about the recruitment issue and we are planing to hold the meeting of the full UGC commission on the 21 January to finally place the recommendations by Anand Krishna Committee and clear the issue by approving the service conditions and the subsequent gazetted notification in this regard.’
