The Delhi government has decided to send its school teachers for a 10-day residential vipassana course. It will be voluntary to begin with — those interested can apply — and will be conducted by an organisation in Sohna, Haryana. The 10 days will be during the summer vacation to ensure there’s no interruption of course work. For teachers, these 10 days will be treated as work ones.
“We have invited names of teachers and whoever is interested can get trained,” says Padmini Singla, director, education.
There’s no cap on the number of seats yet. “The organisation is Vipassana Sadhana Sansthan in Sohna, Haryana. They hold these shivirs (camps) twice a month.” This is part of the value education programme the AAP government has been emphasising on. “The entire thinking is in that direction. The idea is to build a sound value system and these are steps toward that,” she adds.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is a regular practitioner of this form of meditation.
