Labour Minister Gopal Rai on Sunday announced hike in aid for the welfare of construction workers under various schemes provided by the state government.
Rai said for the marriage of daughters of construction workers, the financial help has been increased from Rs 10,000 to Rs 51,000.
Rai added that the government had set up a Committee to look into increasing the minimum wage of a labourers. “Once the Committee gives its report, the minimum wage of a labourer will be increased,” he said.
Rai said that the country can progress only when its labourers progress and start living a quality life.
He added that the government had increased funds by three to four times in the schemes for Building and Other Construction Workers .
Also, a Talent Academy has been set up so that children of labourers can get quality education. Rai also handed over a cheque of Rs 12 crore to the Education Department for 1,52,857 registered construction labourers’ children, studying in various government schools. Earlier, the government has given Rs 60.45 crore for the purpose.
