Govt gets notice for not giving legal help to juveniles

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Monday issued a notice to Delhi government over lack of legal assistance to juveniles in conflict with law.

‘The Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report

which cited that most juvenile inmates at Seva Kutir Juvenile Reform Home in Kingsway Camp, North Delhi, have no access to legal assistance and many do not even know why they were lodged there.

‘The contents of the report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of juveniles,’ the NHRC said. Notice has been issued to the secretary, department of women and child development, Delhi government and a report has been sought.
