Govt gave less relief for crop damage: Farmers

Two farmers allegedly committed suicide, at two separate places in UP, after their crops failed, officials said on Sunday. In the first incident, 50-year-old Hariom, a resident of Partapur village in Bahjoi, immolated himself after his tomato crop was damaged, police said. Hariom, a marginal farmer, had planted the crop after taking loan of around Rs 50,000. In another incident, an elderly farmer committed jumped to death before a moving train allegedly due to poor production of cane crop in Kalpi area. Police said the victim’s suicide note mentioned that poor crop and lower production made him take the extreme step.
