Govt formation: LG to consult parties

Update: 2014-10-30 22:36 GMT
After the meeting, Jung issued a statement: ‘In view of the President’s approval to explore the possibility of installing a popular government in Delhi, the LG would be exploring the possibilities with the leaders of all political parties over the next few days.’ When asked about calling all the political parties ‘instead of BJP’, the LG stated that views of all leaders of all political parties are required to end the stalemate.

Sources also said that Jung, who came back to Delhi from abroad on Tuesday night, came under pressure and has decided to call all the parties’ leaders rather than BJP only as he mentioned in his letter to President Pranab Mukherjee. Sources in Raj Niwas said, ‘Jung has decided to invite the leaders this week itself.’ He had written a letter to President one month ago that BJP is the largest party and therefore, it should be called to form the government.

Sources in Raj Niwas said that Jung will give around five days time to the BJP to prove its majority in the 67-member Assembly.

Since the by-polls have been announced in three assembly seats — Krishna Nagar, Tuglakabad and Mehrauli — will be held on 25 November, not a single candidate has reportedly filed his nomination for the past two days for any of the three seats.

In the meantime, BJP top leadership has planned to meet in next four to five days and to discuss ways to end the deadlock.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal hit out at Jung for saying that he would explore the possibility of installing a popular government in Delhi in the next few days. Kejriwal questioned Jung’s intention and asked whether Jung would seek for an adjournment in Supreme Court on Thursday.

Kejriwal demanded that Jung should call an all party meeting today (Wednesday) and take a final decision by evening and inform the apex court on Thursday. ‘It is unfortunate that LG is in active collusion with BJP and running the backdoor government for the BJP and acting as an agent of it rather than protecting the Constitution of India,’ he said.

He also accused Jung of doing nothing for the past eight months to end political deadlock in the national Capital.
