Govt collects record VAT of `2k cr, Commissioner awards employees

Trade & Taxes department of the Delhi government collected a record Rs 2,000 crore VAT in the month of January informed VAT commissioner S S Yadav on Friday. The Commissioner also felicitated the best performing employees for the month of January with rolling trophy among eight categories.

“Introduction of the awards has enthused the officers and staff of the department to work with greater zeal to achieve the revenue target. The photographs of the award winners clicked while receiving the awards have been displayed for the month on the “Wall of Honours” set up in the department,” said S S Yadav. 

The department has started awarding rolling trophies to the best performers every month by giving trophies in eight categories. 

“With the combined efforts of the all officers and staff, the department has been able to achieve very good growth in VAT collection in the last 2 months. In the month of January, the department for the first time was able to collect more than Rs 2,000 crore as VAT in a month. Before this, in December 2015, the department achieved very high growth of more than 20 per cent,” he added. He further said that the department is making all possible efforts to facilitate business and promote ease of doing business in the city. 

“However, tax evaders and defaulters would be dealt with a heavy hand and no such dealers shall be spared,” asserted Yadav.
