Implying that the arrest of Ravi, the RTI activist who tweeted against Chidambaram’s son, reflects the emergency mindset of the government, senior BJP leader L K Advani on Sunday, criticised the government for this move.
‘Ravi, who has been active in the events being organised in Puducherry by IAC, was summoned by the police for this tweet of his, and put under arrest,’ said Advani. The RTI activist had tweeted that finance minister Chidambaram’s son Karti had amassed more wealth than Robert Vadra.
Quoting former Madras High court judge David Annoussamy, the BJP leader pointed out that by the yardstick applied in Ravi’s case by the police, many tweeters would have to be arrested. ‘If any person feels aggrieved by a tweet, he can certainly file a defamation case against the person who has tweeted. Only if a court finds him guilty can he be arrested,’ wrote Advani.
Talking about the fear of the govt among the filmmakers, Advani said that this one of the reasons whey a single movie has not been made on the period of emergency. ‘The film maker emphasised that this neglect is because there is widespread apprehension that those in authority would not tolerate a fair and honest projection of what actually happened’ said Advani.
