India’s chief golf coach Jasjit Singh feels that the men and women’s teams have strong chances of finishing on the podium at the 17th Asian Games which started in the South Korean city of Incheon Friday.
‘Though we have a very young team for the Asiad, we have a very strong chance of podium finish in both the men and women’s team events. The players had good rounds of preparation going into the Games and we hope that they will keep up the momentum and come out with flying colours,’ Jasjit Singh said at the Delhi Golf Club (DGC), where the seven-member team was given a warm send-off.
Udayan Mane, Feroz Garewal, Samarth Dwivedi, Manu Gandas are in the men’s team while the women’s team comprise Aditi Ashok, Astha Madan and Gurbani Singh. ‘These players had recently played the Youth Olympics and World Amateur C’ship. To add to that we had a practice session in July at the course in Korea which will host the event in the Games. So, we are very confident about our performance,’ he said.
