Delhi Assembly speaker Ram Niwas Goel has proposed a special 15 days’ summer session for all legislative bodies in the country every year. “The special session, Janata Ka Session, should be dedicated to fund solutions of three major problems plaguing the country – flood, drought and lack of healthcare,” said Goel at the 78th Conference of Presiding Officers of Legislative Bodies of the country at Gandhinagar.

“We all must take a pledge of holding a special 15 days’ people’s session every year,” he added. Speaking on ‘Need to ensure minimum 60 days sittings of the House in a year’, Goel said there should be a summer session, in addition to the existing Budget, Monsoon and Winter sessions.

Goel said in 2015 the Delhi Assembly had met for 26 days and cleared 23 bills in 10 months. Also, the House witnessed the longest Winter session of 12 days, he added. He expressed confidence that in future the Assembly will be able to sit for longer duration and transact substantive business.
