Give electronics sector importance under Make in India & Digital India programme: ESC
Electronics and Computer Software Export promotion Council (ESC) has presented to the Government a “wish list” to accelerate the production and export of electronics goods in the country, to stem the imminent <g data-gr-id="13">large scale</g> foreign exchange outflow on account of the surging imports of the electronics goods in the near future.
“India’s total production of electronic goods during 2014-15 was just $31 billion as against a market estimated at $70 billion. It is estimated that the demand for Indian electronics industry will cross $400 billion by the year 2020 and at this rate the domestic production can be at best $100 billion,” Saumen Chakraborty, Chairman ESC said. He further said that India cannot afford <g data-gr-id="15">importing</g> all its telecom and electronics equipment. We desperately need a high vaulted focus on local manufacturing to reduce heavy dependence on imports.
