Days after the burnt body of a 16-year-old girl was found at her second floor residence in Gandhi Nagar area of East Delhi, Delhi Police have arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with her murder. The case was cracked after a 17-year-old girl during questioning, revealed how she was gang-raped by one Danish and his brother, Ashu last year. Talking to Millennium Post,
the teary-eyed mother of the victim sighed: “If that girl had complained to the police at that time itself (last year), my daughter would have been with me today.”

On the other hand, a delegation of the Congress led by Mahila Congress Leader Shobha Oza and former Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Barkha Singh Shukla paid a visit to the 16-year-old’s mother at her house.

According to the police, on July 28, they received a PCR call at around 3.30 pm when neighbours informed them about smoke billowing out of the minor girl’s house. When they broke open the door, they found body of the minor girl burnt.

They informed her mother, who works in a nearby factory and also informed the police.

Talking to Millennium Post, one of the neighbours said: “We saw smoke coming out from the girl’s house. Without giving a second thought, we broke open the door as the door was locked from outside. We found the girl wearing her school uniform, lying burnt on the floor. We did not see anyone entering or leaving the house.”

During investigation, police questioned friends of the victim.

While questioning a 17-year-old girl, a former classmate and a close friend of the victim, also a minor, she disclosed that the victim was allegedly being harassed by one Danish. Living in the same locality, Danish used to allegedly harass her asking her for sexual favours, said police.

The 17-year-old girl further revealed that Danish along with his younger brother, Ashu had repeatedly sexually assaulted her a year back. Based on her statement, a case under relevant sections of rape and POCSO Act was registered against Danish and Ashu and they both were arrested, said police.

However, in the case of the 16-year-old girl, police said that they have arrested Danish on charges of murder. “Since we are yet to receive the final post-mortem report, we are not sure whether the 16-year-old was sexually assaulted or not,” said a senior police officer.

Police said that Danish runs a sewing shop in Kailash Nagar area. Further investigation is on.
