Girls outshine boys in ISC, ICSE results

Girls outshone boys in the Class X (ICSE) and Class XII (ISC) examination results announced on Friday conducted by the council for Indian School Certificate Examination.

The results of Indian Certificate for Secondary Education (ICSE) Class X and Indian School Certificate (ISC) Class XII for 2012 were declared at 3 pm on Friday. The ICSE exams were held between February and March, whereas the ISC exams were held between February and April. Shivanshu Chaudary of Holy Angels School Sahibabad, Delhi, topped the ICSE examination with an aggregate of 98.60 per cent.

Shivali Manhotra and Bhavya Kulshetra, with 98.75 per cent from Shri Ram Aravali School, Gurgaon topped the ISC exam.

Gerry Arathoon, chief executive and secretary of ICSE and ISC, congratulated all the candidates who have passed the examinations. Arathoon said, ‘In all, 28 schools in NCR opted for the ICSE exam in 2012 and 2,401 students appeared for it. Among them 1,315 were boys of whom 1,295 passed the tests.

As many as 1,086 girls appeared for the exam and 1,082 passed the exams. The pass percentage is 99 per cent.’ In NCR, 17 schools opted for ISC examination and 996 students appeared for it.

Among them, 514 were boys, out of whom  496 cleared the exam. On the other hand, 482 girls appeared for the exams, out of whom 477 passed. The pass percentage for ISC was 97.69 per cent.

Arathoon said that girls fared better than boys in both ICSE and ISC exam’.

‘The ICSE examination is conducted in 64 written subjects, of which 23 are in Indian languages and 12 are foreign languages.

On the other hand, ISC conducts the test in 50 written subjects, of which 14 are Indian languages, 5 are foreign languages and 2 are classical languages’.In the special category of ICSE, 75 candidates from SC (Scheduled Caste), nine from ST(Scheduled Tribe) and 279 from OBC took the examination.
