A 21-year-old Delhi University student has alleged that she has been raped several times on the pretext of marriage by a 24-year-old medical student whom she met on Facebook.

The accused is absconding, police said. In her complaint to the police, the girl allegedly said that she has been raped several times by Vipin Sharma who hails from Mathura. ‘Sharma had promised her that he will marry her. The girl trusted the boy and agreed to have an intimate relationship with him. The two were in a relationship for over two years,’ the police said.

The boy is reportedly pursuing his bachelors in dental surgery.

Feeling victimised and betrayed, the girl logged a complaint at the Nihal Vihar police station in West Delhi. When the cops asked her about the history attached with the relationship, she revealed that the boy was unknown to her since she met him on Facebook.

After adding each other as friends on Facebook, the duo started chatting on the website. Few months later they even exchanged phone numbers and started meeting often in Delhi.

The girl also informed the police that it was Sharma who proposed marriage and she readily accepted the proposal. She alleged that though she did not want to establish a physical relationship, the boy forced her into it by constantly promising marriage. However, he later refused to marry.

‘One day when I asked him to marry me, he refused to do so by giving some excuse.

Every time I tried to talk to him about our promised marriage he would get irritated and start ignoring me and my phone calls.

He has not talked to me even once in the past two months. When I tried to contact him through Facebook, he did not respond,’ the girl told police.

A case under the Indian Penal Code has been registered against Sharma and the police is trying to trace him.
