Ghosts in her head led to suicide

It was fear and blind, unquestioning belief that her home was haunted that led a 55-year-old woman to commit suicide in east Delhi’s Welcome area, police said on Sunday.

Shahjahan’s husband Ifran, 60, found her hanging from the ceiling fan in their home Sunday morning. No suicide note was recovered.

The woman’s husband, an auto driver, told police that his wife had long been tormented by the thought that ghosts prowled their house. Nothing he could say to disabuse her of her fears worked. ‘She was depressed, and believed that ghosts haunted their house. She had attempted suicide earlier too,’ a police officer said.
