Physically and mentally challenged boys and girls too figured in the event where prizes were announced for 65 participants last evening after the two-hour contest. The competition, which began at 10.30 am in the museum premises, had its participants divided into junior and senior category. 'The aim is to inspire youngsters to know more about one’s heritage,' said Dr Venu V, the Director-General of National Museum.

Named ‘On The Spot’, the event gave the participants the choice to sketch and paint pictures of an object at the National Museum or about anything related to heritage. National Museum Curator (Paintings) Dr V K Mathur, who is coordinator of the event, said a five-member jury that included renowned artist Arpana Caur, chose winners of the first, second and third prizes in both junior (class IV to VIII) and senior (class IX to XII) categories.

'In each of the categories, there were three winners for both second and third prizes besides the one topper. Besides these 14, the rest 51 prizes were the jury’s choice based on the merit of the art work,' he added. National Museum will be shortly announce the date of distribution of the prizes.
