The incident came to light after the victim, who is doing her internship here, approached the police on 12 March. She has been living here to pursue her internship for the past four months and was supposed to return back in April. Meanwhile the accused are currently absconding.
The victim, in her 30s, said in her complaint to the police, that on 8 March she hired a three wheeler to ferry her from Max Muller Bhawan situated in Feroz Shah Road to Greater Kailash. After she got into the vehicle, she switched on the GPS service on her cell phone to keep a tab on the vehicle’s movement.
‘At around 10.30 pm, the driver stopped on the pretext of searching for a particular tool kept beneath the rear seat. He, according to the victim, started touching her deliberately under the pretext of searching for his tool,’ said the police.
The victim, frightened with the driver’s unwelcome behaviour got out of the vehicle immediately in a bid to raise an alarm.
Meanwhile, an over-speeding two wheeler suddenly appeared, snatched her purse and sped away. She ran behind the two-wheeler to note down the registration number. However her attempts were in vain. By the time she came back to the spot, the auto-rickshaw driver had fled.
The victim then walked down the stretch and reached her house. She is learnt to have consulted with her friends before approaching the police on 12 March.
‘A case has been registered based on the victim’s statement at the Barakhamba Road police station under sections 354 A (sexual harassment, physical contact, advances involving unwelcome and explicit sexual overtures, or any other unwelcome physical, verbal or non-verbal conduct of sexual nature) and snatching section of the IPC,’ said SBS Tyagi, DCP, New Delhi.
‘The victim’s statement under section 164 CrPC has also been recorded before a magistrate,’ said Tyagi, adding that a manhunt has been initiated to nab the accused, who are currently absconding. According to police, further investigations are underway.
