The life of Gautama Buddha’s wife, portrayed as a combination of dance and theater is set to hit Delhi for the first time. Yasodhara, playwright directed by Dr. Gowri Ramanarayan will be held at 7 pm 22 March at FICCI auditorium.
The play has received rave reviews from critics and audiences for its performance and is presented by Natya Ballet center.
Dr. Gowri, a vocal accompanist to music legend M.S. Subbu Lakshmi for 16 years, also plays the role of Sutradhar, besides directing it. Mythili Prakash, one of the world’s leading young exponents of Bharata Natyam performs the role of Yasodhara to the live Hindustani music of Nisha Rajagopalan interspersed by the English narration of Dr. Gowri.
The play is based on the poems of the twentieth century Hindi poet Maithalisharan Gupt and exuberates the journey of Yasodhara from grief and bewilderment to the blossoming of her own self.
