In a gang-war where around 50 rounds were fired in South-west Delhi’s Chhawla area on late Sunday, a retired Delhi policeman was killed while his wife and daughter-in-law were left critically injured by a criminal’s accomplices, who fired upon the family indiscriminately to avenge the aforementioned criminal’s killing three hours earlier, police said.
According to police, at around 10.30 pm on Sunday, Sunil, a criminal was shot dead by one Naththe Singh, also a wanted criminal, who was accompanied by few armed men in a car. More than five bullets pierced into Sunil’s body.
The incident took place after Singh indulged in heated argument with him and his family members over some monetary issue. Sunil was rushed to the nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. At around 1.30 am in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday one of Sunil’s family members along with their associates, reached Naththe Singh’s house in Chhawla area and opened fired on him and family.
They barged into Naththe Singh’s house that was opened by his father, Hari Kishan, a retired Assistant Sub Inspector. More than a dozen of bullets pierced into his body. In the meantime, other gang members entered inside the house and opened fire on Naththe Singh’s family members.
Kishan was dead on the spot while his wife Kamla (58) and daughter-in-law Sharmeela (28) suffered critical injuries in the attack. Kamla received three bullet injuries while Sharmeela received two bullet injuries. However, Naththe Singh managed to escape from the firing spree. More than 40 rounds were fired on them.
“All the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital where Kishan was declared dead while his wife and daughter-in-law are being treated and stated to be critical,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) R A Sanjeev said.
The officer said two separate murder cases were registered and a hunt had been launched to nab Singh and those who fired on his family members killing his father, who retired from Delhi Police last year.
