Gang that ‘stole’ people’s ATM PINs busted

Delhi Police have busted a gang of seven persons who cheated several people by obtaining confidential details of their SBI debit and credit cards. Once they got access to their card’s PIN, they made online transactions including an instance where they bought an iPhone 6 from Snapdeal. Senior police officers said that the accused have made 194 transactions and have cheated many online merchants including Snapdeal and Amazon. One of the accused, Raju Mishra was caught red handed while taking a parcel of iPhone.

According to the police, on May 28, the Assistant Manager of SBI Bank, Delhi, reported to the police that he got know that one person, Raju Mishra was caught red-handed while receiving a parcel containing iPhone 6 which was purchased from the credit card details of an SBI customer. The complainant brought Mishra to Burari police station.

Based on the Assistant Manager’s complaint, a case was registered. During sustained interrogation, Mishra broke down and revealed that he along with Akash, Pardeep Bhagat, Rameshpal, Raju Madrasi and Deepak cheated people. On Raju Mishra’s instance, all the other accused were arrested, said police.

“During further interrogation, he told cops how while working in a call centre, he got an idea to procure the confidential credit/debit card details by tele-calling the bank customers. He therefore started a call center in Sant Nagar, Burari with Pradeep Bhagat and Ramesh Pal and hired Akash, Raju Madrasi and Naseeb,” said a senior police official.

Police added that while one of Pal’s friend arranged data of 2,750 SBI credit/debit card holders, Ashwani and Pradeep arranged the SIM cards, mobiles and other necessary amenities in the call centre. From here, they used to call the bank card holders and procure their confidential card details on the pretext of re-issue of their cards. Once they got the details, they purchased the mobile phones by online transactions using the confidential card details.

Senior police officers said that Raju Mishra forged Aadhaar cards based on which parcels were delivered at different addresses in Burari and adjoining areas. Once the accused got the parcels, they used to sell the mobile phones in Gaffar Market and Karol Bagh through Deepak.
