A gang, which was allegedly pumping spurious medicines into the national Capital has been busted by the Crime Branch here, with the arrest of three of its members and unearthing of a Mohali-based factory, which produced these fake drugs.
Police has recovered ten cartons of fake drugs worth Rs 50 lakh from different hideouts of the gang. Those arrested are veterans of the field and have been arrested earlier as well for the same offence, police said.
Investigators have sent the recovered drugs to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to determine what was being used to make these drugs. It has emerged that the gang had been operating since 2011 and a major portion of their “consignments” were sent to small towns through trains to avoid detection.
On Monday, police had got a tip off that one Manoj, who resides somewhere in Paharganj and is involved in sale or supply and purchase of spurious drugs. “It was also learnt that Manoj had stocked spurious drugs in a godown in Paharganj and he would be coming to the said godown to deliver the supply of spurious drugs and if a raid is conducted he could be apprehended. The information was shared with officers of Drug Enforcement Department,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav.
Drug Inspectors Sanjay Kumar and G K Kapoor were deputed by the Drug Department to be part of the raiding party. “At the instance of the informer, a raid was conducted at the said godown and Manoj (43) was apprehended. On checking, three cartoons of Zerodol-SP tablets, two cartons of Pantop-D capsules and five cartons of Pantop-DSR containing spurious drugs were found in the godown,” said Yadav. Police registered a case under relevant sections at the Crime Branch Police Station and during further investigation of the case, at the instance of the accused Manoj, a raid was conducted at a factory near Shakti Roadlines, Bhabat, Zirak Pur, SAS Nagar district in Mohali, Punjab.
