Gang busted; more than 50 cases solved

The accused have been identified as Ekant Bansal (34), Rakesh Kumar (27), Manoj (45) and Chander Shekhar (37). In fact, Chander Shekhar turned out to be a Meerut-based jeweller.

According to the police, a watchman from Paharganj area called up the PCR at around 2.20 am on November 13, 2014, and informed that he and his uncle were severely beaten up with rods by a group of men who had come to the market in a Santro car to execute an alleged burglary. The complainant’s uncle was admitted in a hospital and later succumbed to the injuries.

Later during investigation, it emerged that another burglary had taken place in Najafgarh area on the same night and the accused had come in a Santro too. On January 15, the police arrested Ekant and Rakesh who were approaching a picket set up near Paharganj. They were followed by Manoj, approaching the picket in another Santro, said Parmaditya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central).

They revealed that the three had met in the jail and formed a gang and began executing burglaries all over the Capital after release. A police team was sent to Meerut and Chander was arrested immediately, Parmaditya added.
