Apart from Tharoor, few new names have come to light including Sunanda’s best friend — Sanjay Dewan, one unidentified lady named Kitty, Sunil Takru (her friend) and one Rakesh Sharma.
The recent statement of Narayan, Tharoor’s domestic help, points towards Tharoor’s involvement in the case. In his statement to the police, a source close to investigation said that Narayan was witness to a bitter fight between the couple in Dubai, in which Tharoor got injured. According to him, the whole brawl took place over one lady named Kitty.
The Delhi Police are likely to question Sanjay Dewan, Sunanda’s close friend, whose name had cropped up during Narayan’s interrogation. “At times, Sunanda used to stay at Dewan’s residence.
Few days later, Dewan had stopped coming to Sunanda’s residence,” the source said quoting Narayan.
On January 15 last year, when Sunanda checked-in at Leela Palace Hotel in Chanakyapuri, she called up Tharoor and said that “his game is going to end”. She came to the hotel with Sunil Takru and checked-in at room number 307. On January 16 late evening, Sunanda shifted to another room.
“When Tharoor left the hotel on January 16, Narayan told him to come back after work otherwise she would be angry again.”
In the intervening night of January 16 and 17, the couple fought till 4.30 am after which Sunanda called up someone and explained everything to that person. She spoke over phone for about half an hour.
On January 17 at around 6.30 am, they had a fight again. After that, she instructed Narayan to go back home and bring her clothes. He was aware that Sunanda was about to do a press conference on the same day for which one Rakesh Sharma came to the hotel but couldn’t meet her as she was asleep.
Meanwhile, Dewan called Narayan to ask about Sunanda’s health on which he informed that she was asleep and had not eaten anything for three days.
At around 3.50 pm on January 17, Dewan came to the hotel and had tea in her room but she lay asleep. Later in the evening, she was declared dead by the doctor at the hotel.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police, which has registered a case of murder in the death of Sunanda Pushkar, is planning to question Mehr Tarar, the Pakistani journalist over whom she fought with her husband Shashi Tharoor before her mysterious death last year.
A questionnaire is being prepared which will be sent to her via email and replies will be sought, police sources associated with the investigation said on Friday.
