Four ‘thieves’ escape while cops discuss jurisdiction

On Tuesday night, two employees of a Bareilly-based businessman were abducted and robbed of Rs 1.15 crore in Noida. The victims had to run from pillar to post to get their compliant registered even as the police disputed over territorial jurisdiction.

According to the complaint, Mohan Bhatt was going to Chandhni Chowk to purchase gold and silver for a wholesale jeweller in Bareilly. The incident happened at around 10.30 pm when Bhatt and his driver Ibrahim reached Mahamaya flyover in Noida in his car. Four people dressed in police uniforms overtook them and later took over their car. They started  to drive around Noida and Greater Noida through the night even as they robbed the money. They allegedly dumped them in Surajpur police station area in Greater Noida in the wee hours on Wednesday.

‘I approached to register the case in Surjapur police station but the police turned down the application asking me to approach Sector 39 police station in Noida, around 22 km away,’ said Bhatt. Meanwhile, the culprits, allege Bhatt, managed to flee.

‘The crime occurred in Sector 39 police station area so the case was registered there,’ said Preetinder Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police, Noida.
