In a horrifying incident, a 35-year-old shopkeeper committed suicide after murdering his wife and two daughters by brutally beating them with rods in Dwarka on Monday. No suicide note has been recovered yet.

The incident was reported to the police on Monday at approximately 8 am when the accused’s brother, Kishore, reached the scene of crime. The entire event unfolded at an under construction building in Dwarka.

He told police that he visited the house to take his brother’s two daughters to school. He found three bodies that were lying in a pool of blood on a bed in the ground floor. He further searched for his brother, who was eventually found hanging from an iron hook on the ceiling of the second floor.

The accused has been identified as Ravinder Kanojia (35), who owns a dry cleaning shop in Dwarka’s Bharat Vihar area. Kanojia along with his family members were residing in a rented accommodation as his own house, located in the same colony, was under construction.

On Sunday night, he decided to spend a night in the under construction building with his family members. Fortunately his youngest daughter, a three-year-old, refused to accompany her family to spend the night in their house. She stayed back at her uncle’s residence and fortunately survived the brutal act.

Other family members including Kanojia, his wife and two daughters spent the night on the ground floor that was partially furnished. According to police, Kanojia had a heated argument with his wife Chanda (30) over some family issue that is yet to be learnt. The argument turned violent and provoked Kanojia to commit the act. He started beating her with the iron rods until she took her last breath.

Her two daughters, Yashika (8) and Nandani (6), were sleeping in a separate room during the incident. After killing his wife, he attacked his daughters with iron rods and smashed their heads. Prima facie it appears that after killing his family members he went to the second floor and committed suicide.

Suman Goyal, deputy commissioner of police (south-west) said, ‘The investigation is underway and the family members are being questioned to understand issues that existed between the couple, which resulted in this brutal act. No suicide note has been found.’

Kishore, elder brother of Kanojia has been quizzed for hours  as he reached the spot and informed police. The weapons used during the act has been recovered. Bodies of all the four persons have been sent for post-mortem and the family is likely to perform their last rites on Tuesday.
