Four killed, 3 injured in accident

Four persons were killed and three others were injured in a road accident at Haringhata in Nadia in which a Tata Sumo collided head on with a truck near Jaguli crossing in the wee hours of Friday.

Police said that four – Rajendra Prasad Dhar, Milan Pal, Jaga Ghosh and Krishanu Mondal – were declared brought dead when taken to hospital while three others were fighting for their lives at Kalyani Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital.

A police officer said that the Tata Sumo with seven persons including the driver was heading towards Bongaon from Kolkata. The driver of the Sumo had failed to control the speeding vehicles suddenly finding the truck approaching from the opposite direction and collided head on.

There was no one in the area as the accident took place on the wee hours. The driver of another vehicle that was passing from the area contacted the police and informed about the incident.

Policemen from the local police station rushed to the spot and initiated the rescue works. The policemen found it difficult to bring the victims out of the car. Later, a portion of the car was cut using an electric cutter and all seven were brought out.

Four persons were declared brought dead when taken to a primary health centre. The three injured persons were shifted to Kalyani Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital.
