Former servant arrested for stealing jewellery, cash

A 20-year-old man has been arrested for stealing gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 90 lakh along with a cash of Rs 20,000 in South Delhi’s Vasant Vihar area, police said on Monday.

The accused — Brijesh— who hails from UP was a domestic help at the residence of Namrata Kumari. On June 6, she along with her daughter had left for Europe, leaving behind her husband and son at the house. When she came back on June 16, she found that the jewellery is missing along with cash.
She told police that few days ago, she had removed the domestic help — Brijesh for his misconduct and unsatisfactory services. She came to know that during her absence he visited the house. A team was constituted and Brijesh was arrested and he confessed to his involvement in the crime and the stolen jewellery was recovered along with Rs 8,500.

He told police that in May he came to know about the illness of his mother and for her treatment he was in need of money. After he came back to Delhi and came to know that his employer along with her sister had left for abroad, he reached the house of the complainant where the children presumed that he was re-employed and he started working. After getting a good chance, he stole from the almirah and escaped to his native village.
