The accused, Sahaj Umang Singh Bhatia was placed in preventive detention at the Mehrauli police station but later released on bail by the special executive magistrate.

According to the police official investigating the matter, Sahaj was in an inebriated condition and at around 11:30pm on Saturday night, when the bride’s family went out to escort Tytler, Sahaj, belonging to the bride’s side came out and started hurling abuses at the Congress leader. He said, “Tune Dange karwaye the, tu yaha kaise aa sakta hai? (You were part of the riots, How dare you come here).

According to sources, Sahaj Umang Singh Bhatia is a former English Honours student at the Sri Venkateswara College and was also an active member of the Hindi Dramatics society-Anubhuti.
According to a Professor, who taught him at the South Campus college, he was a very vocal student in class and always indulged in heated debates and discussions.  A curious mind, Sahaj raised many questions which sparked further debates in the class.

Sources in the college further added that before joining Sri Venkateswara College, Sahaj was pursuing Physics honours at the Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College in North Campus- where he was well known among juniors and professors alike for being part of the college dramatics society. However, his interest in dramatics made him leave Physics and pursue English Literature which was close to his heart.

Ankita Nair, Sahaj’s classmate in Sri Venkateswara college said, “He actively participated in all the discussions we had in our class. He  was also politically conscious.”

Meanwhile, Sakshi Mathur, another classmate of Sahaj supported his action saying that what he did on Saturday was just out of impulse and not planned.
