Former don DP Yadav puts BJP in a spot

Controversial politician Dharam Pal Yadav, father of Vikas Yadav who has been convicted in the Nitish Katara and Jessica Lall murder cases, put the BJP president Amit Shah in an embarrassing situation as he made an appearance on the dais with Shah in an election meeting in Ambala on Monday.

This is not the first time that the don-turned-politican has put the BJP in a spot. Following a huge public uproar, Yadav’s membership of the BJP was cancelled within four days of him joining the party in 2004. Then party president M Venkaiah Naidu, now a minister in the Modi government, was reprimanded by party seniors Atal Bihari Vajpayee and LK Advani for facilitating Yadav’s entry.

After an uproar on Wednesday, BJP sources said he was not invited to share dais or for election campaigns in Haryana. ‘He on his own volition decided to join the campaign and may be did not want to let go an opportunity to get photographed with Shah,’  said the BJP source. ‘He (Yadav) positioned himself in such a way that even our party president was flummoxed and did not know how to react,’ party sources said.

However, Yadav insisted he never goes to campaign for any political party unless ‘invited’.
He also went on to claim that BJP president is his ‘friend’ and that he would ‘definitely’ join the party. There are rumours that Yadav flew with Shah in the latter’s helicopter, and attended public meetings in Ambala City, Tohana and Bhiwani.
