In the light of the letter of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi to the President seeking his permission to invite the largest legislator party in Delhi legislative assembly to form government, SC on Tuesday asked the Centre to expedite the process to avoid horse-trading. Later in the day, Arvind Kejriwal said he is in contact with all opposition parties and independents to prevent BJP from forming government through illegal and unethical means.
‘Things better be done at the earliest otherwise horse-trading will continue,’ said a five-judge Constitution bench of the Supreme Court led by Justice H L Dattu. The court gave four weeks’ time to Centre and fixed the next date of hearing on 4 October. The bench rejected the affidavit through which the tapes of an alleged sting operation carried out by AAP, in which Delhi BJP’s Sher Singh Dagar was allegedly shown offering money to AAP MLA Dinesh Mohaniya, was sought to be submitted to the court.
In the letter written to the President on 4 September, Najeeb Jung sought permission to invite BJP to form government as it is the largest legislative party. Meanwhile, the only independent MLA Rambeer Shokeen alleged that AAP leaders were pressurising him not to support a BJP-led
government.
