For some good TLC

A lot more happens around the city than it does on television - and frankly we are a little exhausted with the news we use every day. For a breather thus we change the column - Couch Potato to Capitalk. Read on!

A number of spas dot the Capital. Some are great - some, well, not impressive at all. The main idea of a spa should be comfort and privacy. Patrons are paying for some good pampering without having to deal with any sort of discomfort, unhygienic arrangements or (this one’s our favourite) constant conversation from the masseuse.

There are two spas in question today - one the Alaya Spa in PVR Saket and the other (a personal favourite) the Ishana Nature Spa and Shop in the T3 Terminal of Delhi airport.

Nestled in a cozy spot at the PVR Saket complex, Alaya is a soothing experience with their dark wood interiors. The spa offers your regular salon services as well as some great signature massages. They are best known for their Tibetan Kunye massage (Rs 2800 for 90 mins) and this oil based massage focuses on deep tissue work, identifying and working on specific points, mobilising the tissues of joints and warming the body. The Kunye massage is a must try though Alaya also has some great therapies like the Hot Stone and the Lap of Luxury. You can also spend a day at the spa (3 hrs 30 mins) availing a combination of therapies (Rs 5700). The salon offers a brilliant Moroccan Oil therapy for the hair which we are definitely going to try the next time round.

Ishana on the other hand in their store and spa at T3 focuses on a wholesome experience. They have express massages on offer since most of the people walking into the store are either heading for a flight or heading out from the airport. Thus long massages are not an option. But be rest assured that the foot massages and the dry massages are just as satisfying (oil is avoided since there are no arrangements for showers in the store). The view on offer as you get a massage is stunning. Where else would you get to watch planes prepare for take-off as you get pampered?

The best part about this Ishana experience is the healing pool in the middle of the store where you can sit and listen to live musicians. The store offers their range of home decor and beauty products, a fragment of which is available at the MGF Mall (Saket) outlet.

The  T3 terminus store has a lot more products available. They also have a great section for teas, spices, classic desi mithais and packaged food. There is a music section right next to the live musicians, here’s where we tell you that according to the Ishana philosphy -music and meditation are deeply interconnected. The store also has a jewelery section sull of some great pieces in silver, other metals ans semi-precious stones. And while you are there - have the masala tea at the cafe. In another news, Ishana has opened a new outlet in Chattarpur. That’s next on our ‘to-visit’ list.
