Lieutenant Governor, Najeeb Jung, on Monday directed concerned authorities to conduct strict criminal proceedings against those dumping debris (malba) at unauthorised sites within the city. The LG has also directed civic agencies to complete the de-silting process for all drains in the city by the end of this month. Jung added that he would review its status in the first week of June, 2014.
On Monday, LG called up a high-level meeting of all senior officers from the Delhi government to review the city’s preparedness for the upcoming monsoons, especially with regards to de-silting of drains. The meeting was attended by senior officers from MCDs, PWD, DSIIDC and Flood Departments of the city government. The officers briefed Jung on their preparedness for forthcoming monsoon and the de-silting of drains carried out under their respective areas. The field officers also briefed the LG about the ground situation.
In the review meeting the LG also instructed agencies to enhance the number of telephone lines in their Control Rooms. He also instructed that staff should be available round the clock to operate pumps placed at vulnerable points, during the monsoon period.
LG expressed serious concerns on the accumulation of construction debris at the Delhi Metro construction sites and instructed the DMRC not to leave the same and to improve traffic management. He also instructed BSES and TPDDL to ensure that no digging was done during the monsoon period.
The LG instructed the Municipal Corporations to carry out de-silting work of drains less than 4 ft in all unauthorised colonies, irrespective of the agency dealing with development works in those areas.
