Flower power in Capital city

Delhi is anyway a city of parks and tree-lined avenues. But do you know what trees, plants and shrubs surround you? Now, grab this chance to get to know the Capital’s flora and fauna all of this weekend at the 26th Garden Tourism Festival organised by Delhi Tourism in association with Government of Delhi and Incredible India.

The festival will be inaugurated today at the Garden of Five Senses which has been hosting it for over a decade. This time at the festival, the foundation stone of the Labna Arch, a famous symbol of art and architecture left behind by the Mayans. The arch stands as a testimony to years of artistic, political and economic exchanges between India and Mexico.

Gardening is one of the effective ways to stay in touch with nature. So if you are a gardening enthusiast, head to this festival because it is celebrating the theme ‘Special Gardening Fun for Children’ this year. The idea is to educate visitors on getting  youngsters introduced to the amazing world of greens.

Other highlights of the festival include fun activities for children where they can indulge in creating edible gardens, flower gardens etc. Small corners of land which can grow vegetables and herbs etc. can involve children where they will tend them. The basic purpose of the theme is to create special corners for kids with a basic motive of getting them involved in gardening. There will be a specially designed theme garden of size 20ft X 30 ft dimensions.

There are also competitions organised in 31 odd categories such as potted plants, Dahlia pot, Plants, Hanging baskets, Foliage plants, Cactus and Succulents, Aromatic / Herbal and Medicinal Plant, Bonsai Plants of different specifications, Bougainvillea, Floral Animal, Try Gardens, Annual cut flowers in earthen vases, Vegetables Flower Decoration, Flower arrangements and roses etc.

All the exhibits during the festival will be evaluated by judges from respective horticulture area. There will also be a separate section to sell the plants, horticulture equipments, pesticides, fertilisers and other general items. Visitors will thus be able to buy gardening equipment and saplings one roof.
