Flank connecting Maa-AJC flyover to be inaugurated on Aug 8

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will inaugurate a flank that will connect Maa with AJC flyover on August 8. The flank has been constructed in a record time. Firhad Hakim, state Urban development minister said that the stretch was ready for operation and would be opened with a week.

It may be recalled that after coming to power in 2011, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had stressed on the need to connect the AJC Bose Road and Ma flyovers. The Maa flyover whose construction began during the Left Front regime had jumped three deadlines and was inaugurated last year.

But both the flyovers failed to ease traffic jams as vehicles using AJC Bose Road flyover had to get down at Park Circus seven point crossing and then once again take Maa flyover to reach Eastern Metropolitan bypass.

As a result, traffic jams at the seven point crossing became a daily routine. Banerjee requested the engineers to come up with a solution so that the traffic jam at the seven point crossing could be avoided.

Once the arm is opened, vehicles going to EM bypass pass will take the left flank and will reach the destination without affecting traffic at the seven point crossing.

The vehicles taking Maa flyover and the newly constructed flank will converge and from there vehicles moving towards EM bypass from AJC Bose Road flyover will take less than 15 minutes to reach the destination.

This will speed up traffic movement in the area. Traffic movement along with the new stretch will be carried out on experimental basis from Wednesday.

Heavy vehicles will not be allowed. Heavy vehicles will take the road below to reach EM bypass via Milan Mela ground. To avoid road accidents on Maa flyover, CCTVs have been installed and the drivers have been asked to drive cautiously at the sharp bend near ITC Sonar.
