Five major fire incidents were reported in the national Capital on Thursday and 125 calls were received by the fire department. There were reports of one person dying of burn injuries at North Delhi’s Civil Lines while seven others were critically injured in Outer Delhi.

In the first incident, a person was found dead inside a house at third floor in North Delhi’s Civil Lines’ area that was gutted during the wee hours on Thursday. The reason of the fire is yet to be ascertained but in the preliminarily investigation, a short-circuit seems to be the reason.

A major fire broke out after a cylinder blast at JJ Colony in outer Delhi’s Narela region on Thursday. The incident took place during the wee hours when there was a power cut in the area. One of the family members woke up to lit a candle and the blast happened. At the time of the incident, seven persons were present inside the house.

According to the fire department, after they received a call, fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Seven persons were rescued by the team who were critically injured. They were rushed to Mehrshi Balmiki hospital where they are undergoing treatment. During the investigation, it was confirmed that the reason behind the fire was a cylinder blast. When the victims were asleep, gas leaked and the moment one of them tried to light a candle, a blast took place. Further investigation is being conducted by local police, an official at the fire department said.

In another incident, a school cab caught fire at around 5 pm in East Delhi’s Preet Vihar area. The driver of the cab had a narrow escape as the fire broke out in a moving car. Noticing flames billowing out from the rear side, he stopped the car and came out. He later made a call to the fire department after which two tenders reached the spot and doused the flames. In the investigation, it was learnt that the cab had a CNG kit inside and due to leakage of the gas the fire broke out.

In a similar incident, a moving cluster bus caught fire near Shivaji Stadium. One of the passengers noticed the blaze after which all the passengers got down. None of them were injured and three fire tenders managed to douse the fire.

Another incident was reported from Madanpur Khadar where fire broke out in five JJ Clusters on early Thursday morning. “At around 12.50 am, we received a call and 15 fire tenders were sent to the spot. The fire was doused by 4 am and no casualties were reported. However, all the five Clusters were gutted that caused a huge loss to the poor families living there,” the official said.
