Update: 2014-08-09 23:54 GMT
The police said the messages were sent in February this year and the police sprung into action only after the victim reportedly met the district magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police in Gautam Budh Nagar.

The Superintendent of Police (Rural), Brijesh Kumar Singh, said that the victim, who works in the law department in a leading private university had lodged a complaint with the police saying that the dean of the university had sent her indecent messages on several occasions.

‘There is a crime against women committee in the university. The victim alleged that the accused did not stop even after lodging a complaint with the committee,’ Singh added. An FIR has also been lodged under appropriate sections against the dean and the allegations are being probed.

‘The victim said that she had first received messages in the month of February this year and after that the accused had sent messages on several occasions. We have formed a team to examine the allegations,’ Singh added.

The victim reportedly said that the accused was threatening her with dire consequences if she reported the matter. The victim is a resident of Ghaziabad and works in a private university in Greater Noida. ‘So far, the accused has not been arrested. The further course of action will be decided after a thorough probe,’ said a senior police official who is investigating the matter.

The chairman of the private university said a committee has been formed to investigate the case
immediately after the complaint was lodged.

‘We have a dedicated committee to investigate crime against women at work place in the university. The victim works in the law department and had differences with the dean. A committee has been formed to investigate the allegations. If anybody is found guilty then stringent action will be taken by the university,’ the chairman added on condition of anonymity.
