Following the direction of Election Commission (EC) to file an FIR against BJP MP Yogi Adityanath, police in Noida have registered a case against him for violating model code of conduct.
Police have booked Yogi, BJP’s election in-charge of UP by-polls and MP from Gorakhpur, for violation of provisions of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during a rally in Noida this week. This is the second FIR against Yogi in last 24-hour in the state as the first one was filed in Lucknow.
Police on Friday informed that an FIR under Section 153A, 295A and 505 of IPC and 125 of CrPc have been registered against the BJP MP at Sector 39 police station. ‘We have booked Yogi under various sections and investigating the matter. We will take further action if allegations against him are found to be true,’ said Shivram Yadav, deputy superintendent of police (DSP) of Noida.
The EC had on Thursday reprimanded Yogi Adityanath for violating the MCC and asked the UP’s chief electoral officer to ensure that an FIR is lodged against him. ‘The commission reprimands you for the said misconduct and cautions you to be careful in future in making public utterances during election speeches to avoid further violation of the MCC,’ the order said.
The EC also issued a notice to him for violating MCC by allegedly making statements on religious grounds.
