The solo exhibition of renowned artist Shuvaprasanna titled 'Mixed Media (Small format) is being organised at Art Indus gallery, Chanakyapuri from December 7 till January 7, 2019.
For the show, the artist has chosen to work on small format using mixed media comprising acrylic, charcoal, and special ink. In this exceptional group of paintings, the artist optimizes the possibilities of the intimate format and the medium both technically and aesthetically.
The exhibition is the first in a series of upcoming Art Indus exhibitions exploring 'pure reflections' in art and literature, it revisits Shuvaprasanna's mythical surrealism, contemplating his ethereal anthropomorphisms in light of Jibanananda Das' epic poem Mrityu-r-Agey (Before Death) and within other literary contexts that enrich his deeply sensitive subject; exploring the surreal roots of Bengal's mythical depression- what has seen the birth of some of India's most hauntingly beautiful art of the times.
The works are fragments of his artistic journey that began at a very young age and culminated in a beautiful friendship with Günter Grass, noted German Nobel laureate, poet and artist, best known for his acclaimed work 'The Tin Drum'. Shuva's earliest works are glimpses of Kolkata, from within and beyond a curtain of innocence. They project a childlike propensity, that though for its subject has a reality that seems at once harsh and unnerving, and yet in its dénuement (nakedness) bears the seed of illusion, of fantasy- where the absence of any known restrictions, allows the perspective of several lives lived at once; now the only interest becomes in the fleeting.
