Promoting art and artists

The Garhi Winter Show 2018 was inaugurated on November 24 at the Lalit Kala Akademi Art Galleries of Rabindra Bhawan, Mandi House, New Delhi by Adesh Kumar Gupta, Mayor, North MCD and Uttam Pacharne, Chairman LKA.

The inaugural ceremony took place in the gracious presence of JS Culture Ministry, Nirupama Kotru, Rajan Shripad Fulari, Secretary LKA, and other practicing artists, art critics and art lovers in a great number. The show will be on for public viewing till 3rd December, 2018 from 12 noon to 8 pm everyday at the Lalit Kala Akademi Art Galleries (nos.), Rabindra Bhawan, Mandi House, New Delhi. Around 250 artworks comprising of paintings, sculptures, graphics, ceramics etc. by over 130 artists have been put on display.

Inaugurating the Winter Show 2018, the Chief Guest Shri Adesh Kumar Gupta congratulated the participating artists and said, "This is my second visit to the Lalit Kala Akademi and I feel honoured to be here. I congratulate Pacharne for his innovative ventures in the field of art since his joining the LKA as its Chairman. Artists always connect with the nature and the same can be witnessed in the artworks exhibited in this show. All the work here are really beautiful and unique in themselves."

Uttam Pacharne, Chairman, Lalit Kala Akademi, in his inaugural address, reiterated the glorious history of Garhi Regional Centre of LKA,.

"The Garhi artists studio was established in 1976 when the DDA had allotted a four-acre land area with an aim to promote art. It was the profound and determined conceptualization of well-known artist Prof. Sankho Chaudhuri that took shape into what we know today as the LKA RC Garhi. Garhi studios have given the art world artists such as Gogi Saroj Pal, Arpana Caur, Subodh Gupta, Bharti Kher, Dattatraya Apte, Jayant Gajera etc. to name a few.At present, over 350 senior as well as young artists are practicing at the RC Garhi. I congratulate all the participating artists in the show and express my hearty greetings to them," he said.

Congratulating the participant artists, JS, Culture Ministry, Government of India, Nirupama Kotru appreciated the efforts of the Akademi in the promotion of arts. She also promised every possible aid from the Culture Ministry.
