Drawing inspiration from the 'Deeksha Parampara' or the 'Guru- Shishya Parampara', The Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts organised a three day musical evening in collaboration with Sarod Ghar (Music school) of the renowned Sarod exponent Ustad Amjad Ali Khan Sahib.

The three-day musical festival was inaugurated by the Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Arun Goyal along with Member Secretary, IGNCA, Sachchidanad Joshi and Ustad Amjad Ali Khan Sahib.

Also, there was a performance by disciples of Ustad Amjad Ali Khan Sahib – Gurdev Singh Namdhari, Srinjoy Mukherjee, Sunando Mukherjee, Biswajit Roy Chowdhury and Sachin Patwardhan – who also performed with their teacher on the closing ceremony.

Among his other disciples who performed at the three day music festival included Rohan Prasanna, Pritam Ghosal, Partho Roy Chaudhary, Mukesh Sharma, Deb Shankar Roy and Jyoti Shankar Roy. Inaugurating the three day musical evening, Dr Sachchidanand Joshi, Member Secretary, IGNCA said, "It has been my long term wish to begin a series of presentation based on Guru-Shishya Parampara, and incidentally we were privileged to get the support and co-operation of Ustad Amjad Ali Khan at the right moment. It is only due to his co-operation, inspiration and encouragement, we are able to develop and give shape to this new series 'diksha' on Guru- Shishya Parampara'.

He further expressed his gratitude to the 'Sarod star' and said that the Centre is grateful to him and his organization for their collaboration and participation in this series.

Dr Joshi promised that this new series started by IGNCA will not only showcase the different talents and forms of art but also educate our society about the purity and the beauty of the relationship between the Guru and the Shishya which will be appreciated by any music lover.

Present at the occasion Arun Goyal said, "The ministry of culture has expressed their readiness to organise such programms in future as per Ustad's wish. It is a great moment of pride and happiness for the disciples of Ustadji as their Guru himself is organising such programms for them."

Ustadji observed the performance of each and every disciple with keen interest and appreciated each one of them with a huge round of applause and blessings.

The disciples played only the composition made by the Guru and they were very selective and careful while playing their instruments. It was a symphony of different musical instruments like the Sarod, guitar, violin and table played together.
