Experience the magic of North-East

To present an exquisitely unique experience to the artists and art lovers, and to serve the arts in the North-Eastern States of the country, the Lalit Kala Akademi has organised a week-long art festival in Agartala.

'The North East Art festival' is being organised by LKA in joint collaboration with the Directorate of Information and Cultural Affairs, Government of Tripura. The festival which was inaugurated by Kaptan Singh Solanki, Governor of Tripura on December 18 will be held till December 24 at the Nazrul Kalakshetra, Dhaleswar, Agartala, Tripura.

Uttam Pacharne, Chairman of LKA also joined the inaugural ceremony in the presence of Jishnu Debbarma, Deputy CM, Tripura; M L Dey, Secretary, ICA, Tripura and others.

Expressing his happiness about the festival's success, Uttam Pacharne said: "Since its inception, the Akademi has served the arts and has supported the artists of India. Continuing the same and commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi this year, LKA has organised a number of camps and workshops for artists and exhibitions for public. Extending this tradition to the North-East part of the nation, the Akademi is organising this festival in Tripura. The art and culture of the 'seven sisters' hold a unique place in the cultural history of our country."

Acknowledging support by the state government, he said, "I am grateful to the Government of Tripura for their kind support in this programme. Also, I hope that not only the artists but also the public will enjoy the event at fullest."

Making the festival more interesting and participating, the week-long art festival will also include art camps of various mediums, slide presentations, panel discussions and other cultural programmes.

Apart from the special participation by Jishnu Debbarma, Deputy CM of Tripura in the event, a total of 51 artists from across India are participating out of which 30 artists belong to the North-Eastern States, popularly known as the 'Seven Sister' states. These artists are being assisted by 51 art students from the College of Art, Agartala who will also work along with them under their guidance.

This also makes this art festival unique and one of its kind in the history of North-East states' art and culture, where more than 100 artists and art students will be working together under one roof.
