A collaborative effort to take 'HeForShe' forward
Inspired by UN women’s ‘HeForShe’, ‘Son Rise’ – a documentary by Vibha Bakshi was premiered in the Capital on January 15;
Apart from extending its support to the United Nations 'HeForShe' campaign, FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) has also taken the initiative to back Vibha Bakshi's latest documentary film 'Son Rise'.
The film which was premiered on January 15, at India Habitat Centre has been supported by UN Women as part of the 'HeForShe' campaign.
The screening witnessed the presence of some important people like Madhvi Devan, Additional Solicitor General; Neeraj Kumar, Former Delhi Police Commissioner; G Parthasarathy (Diplomat); Professor John Verghese, Principal St Stephen's College; Pinky Reddy, President, FICCI Ladies Organisation along with various foreign ambassadors and dignitaries.
The film is inspired by UN women's 'HeForShe' mandate for men and women to stand in solidarity – to make a bold, visible and united force for gender equality. The women of UN through this film hope to garner one million pledges for the 'HeForShe' movement and bridge the gap of gender inequality across the globe.
Speaking about the recently screened documentary by Vibha Bakhsi, Director and Producer of the National Award winning film Daughters of Mother India, she asserted, "Son Rise is not a film but a movement where men stand up and take a pledge to build a safer society for women and children.
The film focuses on the lives of ordinary men doing extraordinary things to support women and help them rise in the rape capital of India – Haryana."
Talking about the objectives of the organisation, Pinky Reddy, President, FLO, said: "Our organisation has always stressed on the need for true gender equality. We believe that gender equality is intrinsically linked to sustainable development, and is vital to the realisation of human rights for all."
According to her, the overall objective of gender equality is a society in which women and men enjoy the same opportunities, rights, and obligations in all spheres of life.
Reddy believes that the empowerment of women and gender parity is an economic imperative. This stands true more so today in the global context – when women are empowered and can claim their rights and access to land, leadership opportunities are enhanced, and prospects are improved for current and future generations.
The initiatives like 'HeForHer' led by UN are supported by men to a large extent.
