The union minister in his letter dated 29 October has asked all MPs to work in tandem with different government departments to implement the scheme at village level.

The letter, which is in possession of Millennium Post, said, ‘As members of Parliament, we have to lead and guide this initiative in our respective constituencies. This scheme will require planned coordination and convergence among several departments while leveraging the strength of the community at the village level.’ However, the ministry is in touch with the states for organising orientation workshops in different states for easy dissemination of the guidelines of Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana, a pet project of prime minister Narendra Modi.

While asking parliamentarians to initiate the programme at earliest, Gadkari’s letter said, ‘At this juncture, we need to immediately identify the gram panchayats to be taken up for transformation into Adarsh Gram,’ adding that the ministry of rural development is committed to provide all support to MPs for easy and effective implementation of the scheme.

The letter to MPs by Gadkari requesting active cooperation and involvement is in addition to the appeal by Modi on while launching the Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAANJHI) on 11 October. The goal is to develop three Adarsh Grams by March 2019, of which one would be achieved by 2016.

Thereafter, five such Adarsh Grams (one per year) will be selected and developed by 2024. Inspired by the principles and values of Mahatma Gandhi, the Scheme places equal stress on nurturing values of national pride, patriotism, community spirit, self-confidence and on developing infrastructure. The SAANJHI will keep the soul of rural India alive while providing its people with quality access to basic amenities and opportunities to enable them to shape their own destiny.
