Fake love: Jilted lovers attack DU student in east Delhi

A 22-year-old Delhi University student was allegedly attacked with a paper cutter by two spurned lovers on late Sunday evening in east Delhi. One of the accused has been arrested and the other remains at large.

On Sunday evening, when the girl who was pursuing her B.Com from DU was returning to her residence in Kondli. In the middle of the road in east Delhi’s New Ashok Nagar area, she was stopped by the two accused who were known to her.

Both of them, identified as Wasim Akram (25) and Wasim Khan (24), are neighbours of the girl.

Both the accused, who were infatuated with her, attacked her with a paper cutter. She received multiple cut marks on her head, face, stomach and left arm. When she raised an alarm, the locals gathered and in the mean time, both of them managed to escape from the crime scene.

She was immediately rushed to the nearby Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital where her condition is stated to be critical. She also underwent a minor surgery for a deep wound on her head. During inquiry, it was learnt that both were after the victim for the past two years to win her over, but she spurned their advances several times.

‘She had even registered a molestation case against them for misbehaving with her, at the Kalyanpuri police station in 2013,’ the official said.

On basis of the statement given by the victim, one attacker — Wasim Akram was arrested from his residence in Kalyanpuri area of east Delhi while his friend and neighbour Wasim Khan is on the run. ‘A man-hunt is on to nab him,’ the official added.

A case of attempt to murder has been registered against the duo, said a police official.
