Expedite screening of new members: Shah to state BJP chiefs

Update: 2015-06-03 00:45 GMT
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Amit Shah on Tuesday asked all state presidents to expedite the next step of the ‘Maha Sampark <g data-gr-id="43">Abhiyaan</g>’ through the screening of new members across India. The door-to- door campaign under the <g data-gr-id="44">abhiyaan</g> was supposed to start from May 1, but it seems that it will be delayed by a few more days.

In a meeting with all state presidents at the BJP headquarters in the national Capital, Shah handed over booklets and CDs, containing the party’s ideology and mission, to them. The state unit party chiefs have been asked to train new members to spread the NDA government’s achievements in the past one year. Shah also urged the state party presidents to eliminate members having a dubious track record.

He said that the Opposition’s disinformation against the NDA government has to be dealt with firmly by party workers. “Reach out to the new members to counter the disinformation campaign and lay a strong foundation to take the party forward,” Shah told the state unit party presidents.

He added:  “When the membership drive started, I was doubtful. We had secured 17 crore votes and were aiming for 10 crore members. People also said that membership through missed call is mechanical without any people-to-people contact. Those who have given us missed calls are our well-wishers. We have to now turn these well-wishers into our workers and you will play an important role in it.”

Once the screening is over, the party will start training the selected members from August 1. The programme will be completed before the organisational polls take place. “Please tell the new members about the good work being done by the government. If 10 crore people can do that, no propaganda will work against us,” he said.

It has been learnt that the party workers will carry three booklets – one containing the party’s history, second will list its ideologies such as integral humanism and ‘antyodaya’ and the third will entail the good work done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP-ruled states.

The data collected during the exercise will be put up on digital platforms accessible at all district-level party units. BJP members Saroj Pandey, Bhupendra Yadav, Kailash Vijayvargiya and Santosh Yadav have been made in-charge of the campaign.
