Ex-min Thungon gets 4.5 years jail

Former Union Minister PK <g data-gr-id="17">Thungon</g> was on Monday awarded a four-and-a-half year jail term by a Delhi court in connection with a case lodged in 1998 pertaining to misappropriation of Rs two crore <g data-gr-id="18">relesed</g> by the Centre.

Besides the prison term, Special CBI Judge Ajay Kumar Jain also imposed a total fine of Rs 10,000 on 68-year-old <g data-gr-id="13">Thungon</g>, a former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh.

The court awarded three-and-a-half years imprisonment to the two other convicts, Tali <g data-gr-id="15">AO</g> and C <g data-gr-id="14">Sangit,</g> while fourth convict Mahesh Maheshwari was awarded two-and-a-half years jail term in the case.
It imposed a fine of Rs 6,000 on Tali AO and that of Rs 4,000 each on Sangit and Maheshwari.

During arguments held earlier in the day, CBI had sought “<g data-gr-id="19">approporiate</g> sentence” for <g data-gr-id="20">Thungon</g> and the three other convicts.
