Former president of Bharatiya Jana Sangh (BJS) and veteran Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Balraj Madhok died here on Monday. Madhok (96) was unwell for some time and was admitted to AIIMS for a month, where he died around 9 am.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leaders across party lines have expressed their condolences over Madhok’s demise. A two-time Parliamentarian, Madhok represented the New Delhi and South Delhi in the second and fourth Lok Sabha in 1961 and 1967, respectively.
Born on February 25, 1920, in J&K’s Skardu area, he was the founder Secretary of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). In 1951, he was the convener of the first convention of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and was appointed the national Secretary. In 1966, he was elected the national president of Bharatiya Jana Sangh.
He was the head of the Department of History in PGDAV College, New Delhi and edited ‘Organiser’ in 1947-48 and Hindi Weekly ‘Veer Arjun’ in 1948.
